Confirmation is a unique experience on a young person's faith journey. Affirmation of baptism is a spiritual, educational, and relational opportunity for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. Confirmation also provides an environment where small group leaders and students can develop long lasting, mentoring relationships that help to establish faith connections in the childs life. Most importantly, connecting students to other members of the congregation outside of their own family unit is invaluable to connecting them to the greater body of Christ.
The 3-year Confirmation program runs September through March. Each weeks session consists of worship, snacks, and small group discussion. The HERE WE STAND curriculum, developed by Augsburg Fortress, aligns with our goals of providing connections and continuity for the young people in our congregation. Presenting a working knowledge of the basics and using Gods Word to speak to the youth in ways they can relate to, makes the experience a personal and lasting one. Lessons focus on the Old Testament, Luthers Small Catechism, the New Testament and Faith Application. The Luther Handbook and Bible are used to reinforce the concepts and ideas presented. The curriculum also provides small group leaders discussion questions, prayers, and bible connections to help facilitate small group discussions.
Another goal of the program is to expose youth to Gods work beyond the walls of our church and to experience firsthand how to live by faith. Opportunities of fellowship, service projects, and retreats are an integral part of the program. Hospitality Coordinator(s) will have primary responsibility for coordination of snacks and special dinners for the Confirmation program. Service Project Coordinator(s) will compile a list of possible service projects for our small groups or grades to participate in throughout the year. Retreat/Field trip Coordinator(s) will work in tandem with pastoral staff to create one retreat opportunity for each grade level that Confirmation serves.
