"For this reason, since the day we heard it, we have not ceased praying for you and asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of God's will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that you may lead lives worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing, as you bear fruit in every good work and as you grow in knowledge of God." (Colossians 1:9-10)

Prayer plays a central role in our journey of faith. Here at Holy Cross, relationships with God and each other have primary importance. A moment with God offers the opportunity to unite individuals with a relationship in Christ that provides strength for the faith journey.

In our vision statement, we say....”provide strength for the faith journey.” We could fill in the words before that with almost anything, i.e. money, love, attitudes, goals, drives, any of those. But for us, it is God who provides strength for the faith journey. When Isaac sees that nothing is brought for the sacrifice, he asks, “....where is the lamb?” Like Isaac, we look for the “evident”, the logical, the tangible. What Abraham offers us is something much more than that. Abraham offers us trust in God: “God himself will provide....” So the two walked on together.

Almighty God, you always provide whatever is needed, even to the gift of Your only Son. Give us the faith to trust you and your providing. That alone will give us the strength day by day in our journey of faith. This we pray in Jesus’ name. Amen

 A Moment with God...

Meditation and Scripture for the Month of April...

"...but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." (Acts 1: 1-8)

The newspaper/TV news is filled with incidents of individuals who have seen accidents or violence done to another human being but refusing to be a witness in a trial. To be a witness implies a person has seen something, knows something, and is prepared to testify to that fact. Our Lord Jesus knew that we just don't have it in us to do it on our own - especially when it comes to witnessing for Him.

So God took over our fears and gave us the Holy Spirit. When God's Spirit comes upon us (and it is in a way as mysteriously as the word implies and the disciples experienced), we are so filled with the Spirit that it seems to take over and gives us the energy and wisdom for us. God can't make it much easier than that.

O Lord, we think we have so little to offer, but with Your Holy Spirit we become witnesses when we often don't even know it. Thank you, Lord, both for your gift and the opportunities to share them, in Jesus' Name. Amen.

 Prayer Corner...

The Prayer Corner is a place where one or more individuals can retreat to for a personal time with God or a time to share together in prayer. Located in the fellowship hall, convenient for anyone to “drop in and pray”, the prayer corner is available at all times for anyone and everyone. Devotion books, children’s books, and materials are available to assist anyone and everyone when thoughts seem too overwhelming and words seem to be necessary. Upon request, pastors and/or trained individuals will be available to pray with those who feel the want and/or need to have pastoral care connected with prayer.
